Research and dissemination
Redeia's Marine Forest Platform promotes scientific knowledge in its goal of recovering significant extensions of marine habitats of interest.
Our projects are based on science and nature-based solutions. We are committed to R&D&I and the rigour and reliability it provides to our projects, so they can be replicated by Redeia and its subsidiaries in other ecosystems and made available to other entities wishing to act on other marine habitats of interest.
ELASMOCEM
We research the interaction between electromagnetic fields and benthic species. We do this alongside the Oceanogràfic Foundation, the AZTI Foundation, the Institute of Applied Magnetism of the Complutense University of Madrid-CSIC, the Sociedad Anónima de Electrónica Submarina (SAES), and our subsidiaries Red Eléctrica and Elewit. Currently under development.
Red Eléctrica's Marine Forest
The research project developed by Red Eléctrica and IMEDEA-CSIC with the support of the Balearic Government is the seed of Redeia's Marine Forest. Together with IMEDEA-CSIC, we have developed a scientific method for replanting Posidonia that has achieved a success rate of over 90 per cent.
We support the research study by the University of Seville to analyse the active and passive mechanisms that have made the invasive Asian seaweed Rugulopteryx okamurae one of the most aggressive and competitive macroalgae threatening the marine flora and fauna of Tarifa and the Bay of Algeciras. In addition, the project analyses the possibilities for managing and using this seaweed, as well as its use as a natural agricultural fertiliser and its valorisation in the circular economy.
We have spent years generating scientific knowledge about the sea, and now, through the Marine Forest, we are placing it at the service of society.
We support new research and innovation projects from scientific and academic institutions to develop new techniques for restoring and conserving marine habitats.
We promote the dissemination of all acquired knowledge to multiply the platform's impact, through documentation and scientific seminars such as the one held in Mallorca in 2024.

We want to join forces to expand our reach
> Active restoration
We promote and perform active restoration projects for various marine habitats. We have started with Posidonia and gorgonians, but we will continue to expand our scope.
> Scientific dissemination
We are always on the search for innovative technological and scientific solutions that are sustainable and promote collaboration.
> Passive restorationpasiva
Through the removal of barriers or stresses that hinder the regeneration of marine habitats. We will do this with allies, partners, and collaborators who wish to contribute to the objectives of this platform. We will facilitate public and private collaboration in ocean restoration to expand the potential reach to other species and marine sites.
